MEN IN KILTS: HAPPY ST. PARTICK'S DAY

UPDATE: MOM

Mom continues to remain stable, has had no setbacks and is very gradually improving. She is still on the Michael Jackson drug which severely limits her awake time and mobility. They don't like to keep them on the drug too long and may start weening her today (Saturday) but the longer people are on the drug, the more they are able to fight through it and wake up a bit. Yesterday she was able to write with a pen, attempted to speak (even with a tube in her throat) and was able to communicate that her throat hurt, wanted water and pain killer.

If you heard me coughing the last few days, you'd have thought I was coming down with pneumonia so I stayed home yesterday daytime (Friday) and had it checked out. I didn't feel sick at all but I did sound horrible. It was very strange having to make a doctor's appointment when I've been spending 12 hours a day in a hospital surrounded by doctors (two of which are also mine) but I didn't feel like I should be asking them and they didn't offer (not that I coughed in front of them). The diagnosis was that I just have some sinus congestion and the post nasal drip was causing the cough. So I was cleared to go back and spent my 4th night sleeping next to my mom in a chair.

With the sedation, it's not likely she'd need me and with the way I've been conked out, I'd doubt I'd hear her but just knowing I'm there I sure she can feel my energy and should something happen, the nurses would wake me and I'd be there.

While waiting to see the doctor, I finally went and bought my iPad. I got the mini, it felt better in my hands (you hear me say that often about a small item feeling better in my hands) and was easier to type with. We're able to use the hospital's wifi while sitting with her so during all that quite time I'll be able to stay connected. I'm not sure how to blog with it yet and saving and adding pics to posts seems more difficult but I'll figure it out.

Thanks again.

Sean

MEN IN BED

SUITS AND TIES

PASSENGER PICKUP: KYLE'S BED & BREAKFAST by GREG FOX

I first began reading Kyle's Bed and Breakfast when I moved to DC and read the Washington Blade. It was lust at first reading and I've been addicted to Kyle and his sexy, barely dressed guests ever since. Plus, Kyle lives on Long Island where I grew up and live again. Now I have Kyle and the boys on my blog roll (for years actually although the gang hasn't aged a day) and follow them on FaceBook You can read their adventures from the beginning by reading their two books available here. So make a reservation and spend a weekend with Kyle and the boys. Tell them Sean sent ya.

From Publishers Weekly:
At Kyle's B&B, located in a scenic tourist town, every guest is gay, and every day is a drama. Despite the down-to-earth proprietor's desire to live a quiet life, his simple mission—to provide shelter to those wayward souls who find their way to his door—means there's a never-ending supply of guys who need to find themselves. Guests include Kyle's queeny friend Richard; high-powered executive Lance; young, tough Eduardo; closeted baseball player Brad Steel; and straight-talking Brooklynite Nick.
The men live out their lives in the shared living room, chewing over their troubles, offering advice and usually taking their shirts off to reveal washboard abs. Since this is a soap opera, the couplings are too myriad to list, but in the spirit of any long-running daytime drama, almost every logical possibility is explored. Serious issues are addressed: gay fatherhood, AIDS, Brad's adamant refusal to come out and the tyranny of the body-beautiful cultures of the gay community (a bit much in a comic whose art lingers lovingly on every chiseled detail of a character's anatomy).
For all his pat conclusions and leaden dialogue, Fox has a clear affection for all of his flawed but lovable characters, and his ability to come up with endless plot twists makes this a guilty pleasure.  Copyright © Reed Business Information, a division of Reed Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

MEN IN LEATHER

TMI ANSWERS: HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY!

HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY!
1. Do you have any Irish in you? Would you like some?

I'm 100% Irish, 3rd generation. I'd like some in me sure, but I'm available for doing the putting.
2. Do you wear green?
Earth-tones look great on me and as on most red heads so it is a key part of my wardrobe. When it comes to 'the day,' I were green just not the costumey colors and accessories. I don't need them to show my Irish.
3. Green beer is...
Fun. I don't think I've ever had any mostly because I'm not a beer drinker. I know, blasphemer, but I do drink Bailey's and Whiskey on occasion.
4. Irish coffee is...
The best way to drink coffee!
5. Have you worn a kilt?
No, but I'd love to.
6. Have you gone to the NY St. Patrick's Day Parade?
Yes, when I was a kid but I'm just not a parade person. My father has marched in the parade with the US Air Force Band (the big round drum where you spin and twirl the drumsticks with the tassels) and in full Gaelic uniform (not sure what it's called).
7. St. Patrick chased the snakes out of Ireland with a stick. How would you handle snakes?
I'm told very well. I don't mind snakes but would prefer them to keep their distance and I never want to have an experience like Miss Ballbricker did in Porky's.

BONUS
I'm 100% Irish. Would you kiss me?

Yes. I love myself. ;p

UPDATE: MY MOM

The past 48 hours have been very intense. I've spent the past two nights (5pm - 9am) sitting next to my mom, first in her room and then last nigh in the ICU.

After my post the other day, they are all starting to blend, we had good news that there is no clot or floating mass in her heart. The next day she went in for a procedure to drain the fluid from around her heart and she coded just as new Pope stepped from behind the curtains and waved to the crowd.

She came back immediately but had trouble later and was taken to the ICU where she coded again but again came back immediately. They then had to operate to remove the fluid around her heart and find a source of bleeding. I won't go into anymore detail and couldn't really if I tried.

She came through the operation but was on a ventilator, we new this going in, but continues to improve and at this time is exceeding expectations. She is still heavily sedated, on the Michael Jackson drug, but will be weened off later today or tomorrow while at the same time they start to take her off the ventilator.

We know, and have known, that her time is limited but we weren't quite prepared for yesterday's events. With the fluid removed she could see some improvement but she'll stop the chemo and most everything else. The goal at this point is get her off the ventilator and home and comfortable.

If she can't be taken off the ventilator, different from a respirator, the abiding by her wished (and ours) she'll be taken off the ventilator and let nature take it's course.

Obviously new blogging and commenting will be sporadic at best. I have a number of posts completed way in advance so expect to see those.

Thanks again for everything.
